What is incredible about Martin St. Louis

We were NEVER supposed to be any Good at Hockey

Hey Hockey Hacks Community

I love the story of Martin St. Louis - the ultimate underdog in hockey.
Undrafted. Cut out of the NHL. Shorter/smaller than everyone else.
That’s how his journey began.

But through sheer determination and relentless training, he defied the odds, becoming a Stanley Cup champion, NHL MVP, and etching his name in hockey history as the oldest player ever to lead the league in scoring in 2012-2013.

Dude is built like a tank! Fricking Quadzilla!

Ben Patrick likes to joke with me and the other ATG Coaches that he must be my uncle! LMAO!
(Ben and I are constantly pursuing the standards of Marty’s Nordic. It’s tough!)

But here's what truly resonates with me and my journey.

Like Marty, I was never expected to excel at hockey. As many of you know, my early years in the game were far from spectacular where I started out as a life-long house league player, got into competitive hockey at age 15, and got as far as tier 3 junior hockey, only to get 0 points in my last year of junior hockey thanks to chronic hip injuries and lacking the skills needed to perform.

But through dedicated training and a relentless pursuit of excellence, I completely transformed my abilities. Just like Marty, I defied expectations and reached heights I never thought possible, creating standards for sets of movements that align with the abilities of the best hockey players!

And that's the beauty of it – neither of us were supposed to possess the skills of the best players in the world. Yet here we are, flying around the ice with ease, executing moves that once seemed out of reach!

I don’t need to be a pro hockey player to train the abilities of the best players.

I was NEVER supposed to even have their abilities to begin with!

So the very fact that I can fly around the ice with ease, cut on a dime, stickhandle and shoot wherever I want without my lacking skills getting in my way is an incredible miracle to me!

Again, I was never supposed to even have the abilities of the best hockey players!
Neither was Marty St. Louis.

Marty is actually a case of someone going from bottom 100 to top 10. THAT is more interesting to me than someone like a McDavid or Crosby who were already top 5 and stayed top 5.
It's more than just a success story – it's a beacon of hope for anyone looking to elevate their game.
