"Oh he Skates Badly, he does *this* wrong."
You realize that's Connor McDavid, right?
A lot of people, who don’t actually take the time to look into ….. well ….. anything, will look at a mechanics clip of a hockey player, and find anything to criticize them for, even when it comes to the likes of Connor McDavid – possibly the most skilled player in hockey history.
Some will argue that McDavid skates wrong because he swings his arms side to side instead of the conventional forward and back. Others will point out his choppy steps, claiming he skates like he's running. The critiques don't stop there; they'll scrutinize his extreme lean, his long lanky legs, and even his not-so-giant thighs, declaring he's "not a hockey player."
Here's a nugget of wisdom – my approach to learning is straightforward. If someone is the best in the world at something, and they're better than me, I want to learn from them.
So, while armchair couch potato critics dissect McDavid's every move, perhaps there's something valuable to be learned from a player who has reached the pinnacle of the sport. It's easy to criticize, but have they earned the right to do so?
Don't be a Couch Potato. Instead of nitpicking, learn from the best. After all, the ones who've mastered the craft might just have a thing or two to teach us.
